HOW MUCH OF WORLD TRADE IS AFFECTED SO FAR (OCT 2018) BY US-CHINA TRADE WAR?
On 3rd Oct 2018 at the WTO Trade Forum, Alan Winters, Alasdair Smith, Ilona Serwicka and Michael Gasiorek gave a talk on trade wars.
Peter Holmes, Jim Rollo and Julia Magntorn contributed a section using TradeSift which we elaborate on in the slides you can download here.
It turns out that despite the US and China putting trade sanctions on 52.5% and 86.3% of their respective imports from each other, the total amount of world trade affected was still only 2.5% by October 2018.
It could, of course, become much more if the trade war escalates.
