With goods and services interlinked in the modern economy, the EU has dismissed the Chequers proposal for a common rulebook for goods with EU. In “Goods In – Services Out: Can the UK Walk on One Leg?” Drs Borchert and Holmes explore the issues with separating goods and services and find that a goods only backstop from Northern Ireland would be seriously problematic as it would neither preserve the all-island economy in Ireland nor the UK internal market.
